Poll & News

Two people have voted on the Halloween Costumes Poll.. Since this poll lets you chose multiple answers, these are the results:
any kind of witch: 1 vote
from a book: 2 votes
from a movie: 1 vote
other: 1
If you haven't voted yet, please do. You have only to the day after Halloween!
On the other poll, nobody else has voted except for the 5 people. Thank you for voting if you have! On this poll, there are 395 days left! That's more than a year!
I don't have very much news. Yesterday I went to the pumpkin patch in Nicasio. It would have been fun, but there was sideways rain! Sideways rain is not fun because:
  1. An umbrella doesn't help
  2. Your legs get completely wet
  3. Your shoes squelch

Poll

For the poll, a total of 5 people have voted. Please vote! Many polls have ended in ties, and since we have many days, this should turn out well. I think we have around 390 days left! That's more than a year!
I will put out a new poll: Halloween costumes! This time, you have only to the day after Halloween, so please, please! vote!

Weekly News

Hello! Haven't written for a while, but here we are! Nearly Halloween! I'm going as the White Witch of Narnia, from the Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. Great series!
Anyways, for the sake of Halloween, my dance teacher at school, Ms. Bastos, is teaching us 5th graders the dance of "Thriller" by Michael Jackson. Last year, we sang the song, now we dance. Here are some points of the week. Good things are labeled by +'s, bad things with -'s. Just news will not be labeled.
- Not finished with my costume
+Read a lot of good books ( Post on Pieces of Books)
+ Nearly memorized low G and F on my flute (I'm used to them being higher up)\
+ Got a good grade on vocab and math
-district writing& math tests
- earthquake drill

Book Clubs

Book Clubs are fun. You can have sleepovers, and you don't have to be formal. My book club is the opposite of formal. We discuss our book for about an hour, then we just giggle and eat cookies. Our name is The Giggling Cookie People book club. Size as shown.

The Daily/ Weekly News

Authors note: This was a few days ago!
Today nothing much happened, but here are the good & bad points of the day:
  • It was walk-and-roll to school day.I walked- and can you believe it- I came on time!
  • We had science, and a study guide for our up-coming science quiz. While doing this, in 2o minutes, we got 4 class points, which Ms. Jenkins said was a record!
  • We had bus evacuation drills! ROMULICIOUS!
  • Robin was late, so Nory and Kenna, fellow authours, almost came to my house, but I ended up at theirs.
  • OOPS!! I forgot! We started a fun new social studies project. We make up an old civilization, which died long ago, their bones yet to be discovered.
End of the week report from Elina
  • This week the flutes (a.k.a. Kyla and I) got book two of music! Yay! We're ahead of the clarinets, maybe even brass. Yes, I think so.
  • Masha, a girl who came to Berkeley for a while and went to BAM, left. I feel happy for her. It's fun to go on vacation, but you can get homesick. She is going to Israel tomorrow!
  • The book club meeting is tomorrow! I can't wait. It will be in the Rose Garden.
  • On Sunday, Ariana's princess tea party! I am wearing my mother's old dress which she wore in the play The Princess an the Pea. It is blue and very, very pretty.
  • That's the news! Remember to check this blog weekly, if not daily.

Penny Wars

Penny wars are the most ingenius and lie-testing (and homemade) of all wars.
Walk down to a park, on the way grabbing a pie from Giorgio's (or any fine pizza place will do). At home, grab a penny from your local penny jar, or a dime, or a nickel... then divide into teams and begin. The object is to steal the penny from your opponent and keep it through trickery, treachery and good hiding places.
If you have a Spore guide, or any other instructional booklet, in the pages of one is a great hiding place. If your little sister has made a mess recently, hide it in the mess. Pop a water balloon and use the broken plastic for the penny.
Invent a spoken code. Be clever, treacherous, tricky, and have fun!
*** BASED ON A REAL EVENT ***
P.S. Hide the penny in a shut laptop!

School Time

This is Nory, Elina's friend. If you have been following the activities of The Diamond Daily, you know that I am in her class. I also run a story blog. norystories.blogspot.com
In class we were good. We were so good that we got to watch a movie. We did not get far. We will see more this Monday.
The movie was Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief. I just want to say that I've seen it before and the makers left all of the good parts about Kronos out. There was a tie between two of the movies. If I had voted differently, we would have seen the other movie. But not if certain others had changed their minds.
Do you have a suggestion for our next movie (G or PG)? If so, please comment and tell us.
